Federal Government Ending Wyoming Wolf Protections

Federal Government Ending Wyoming Wolf Protections

Since the late 1800’s wolves have been rapidly declining across the United States due to hunters.  They have been using their game for money, hides for clothes, and meat to eat.  What they didn’t realize is that they would almost put these wolves on the edge of extinction.  When the Wildlife Services realized what was happening they started making “safe zones” for these wolves to reproduce and to keep them from disappearing forever.  The main zone is Yellowstone National Park where the largest active volcano in the world lies.  But the Federal government recently stated that they would be ending Wyoming wolf protection laws so that they could now be hunted again.  With only 270 wolves in Wyoming you wonder, Is it safe to risk a hunting season with these few wolves?

The government is taking over the management of wolves and is allowing unlimited hunting licenses but will stop the hunt when they reach 52 wolves.  Think about that… 52 wolves are liable to be killed which is roughly 25 percent of the whole group of wolves.  It has taken over 20 years to build the animal numbers back up to 270 from nearly none.  This is threatening everything that they have been building up for and questions the fact that they might not even realize how big of an issue this could turn out to be.  But to the governments rescue, they aren’t doing this just because they want to.  Bryce Reece explains that, “The reality is my folks aren’t in any big rush to get there to try to kill a wolf.  They just want the ability to protect their livestock.”  So that is one reason they are putting this into effect.  But 52 wolves is a little much to be allowing these “farmers” to kill.  Obviously their not just going to walk outside and see wolves grazing on corn and wheat.  Which is why the argument has come about that this many wolves allowing to be hunted isn’t just a number that we think is too much, but inhumane.  We are cutting their population down to every 1 out of 4 and we think we can just rebuild through protection agencies all of the wolves that will die.  The truth is we can’t, unless you put up laws making it illegal for 100 years.

So yeah Americans need crops and produce for food.  But it’s not like Wyoming is the only state that grows crops.  Studies have shown that Arkansas is the number 1 corn growing state in the Nation.  Wolves haven’t done anything to deserve what’s about to happen and without the people waking up the government from their sleep nothing will be done about the issue until it’s too late.  Right now the only safe zone that still exists in the United stated is Yellowstone, and with Yellowstone releasing wolves into the state of Wyoming, we will totally kill the drive to save the wolves until it was once just a memory, a joke, a dream…
